There are numerous forming technologies for metal bellows, including hydroforming, rubber or mechanical expansion forming, welding, roll forming, electroforming, spinning, and electromagnetic forming. Recently developed bellows forming technologies include heat-assisted gas forming, semi-dieless forming, and water jet progressive forming, each of which offers corresponding types of bellows parts.

Of these numerous forming technologies, hydroforming is the most widely used and covers the widest variety of bellows. Hydroforming holds a significant market share, particularly in the production of medium- and small-diameter, thin-walled bellows. Bellows hydroforming is a typical application of modern hydroforming in pipe forming. Hydroforming metal bellows offers a minimal number of forming steps, high production efficiency, high product quality, and a high degree of automation and ease of operation. Hydroformed bellows are primarily used for processing materials with good room-temperature plasticity, such as stainless steel, mild steel, and copper alloys. The processable wall thickness ranges from 0.08–4mm. The corrugation depth coefficient (k) is generally no greater than 2 (the corrugation depth coefficient is the ratio of the outer diameter to the inner diameter of the bellows, a key parameter determining the bellows' geometry). Suitable corrugation styles include U-shaped, V-shaped, square, and S-shaped corrugations that are easily removed from the mold.
